Male-to-female transgender child rapist is transferred to WOMEN'S prison in Washington

A male-to-female transgender child rapist is said to have been transferred to a women’s prison in Washington, according to reports from Reduxx.

Brooke Lyn Sonia, who went by Brett David Sonia, was convicted in 2005 and 2006 of a dozen charges related to the sexual exploitation of a young girl, according to the publication.

An anonymous source speaking to Reduxx, who went by Shawn, has claimed that someone he knows in the Washington prison said Sonia has allegedly left some inmates ‘petrified’ after telling them ‘she sometimes identifies as a man.’

She’s now said to be at the Washington Correctional Center for Women, which has been nicknamed ‘Camp Cupcake’ because of its easy regime.

Sonia was incarcerated, according to Reduxx, after a girl, 13 at the time, was allegedly groomed by her.

The convicted child rapist, who was identifying as a man at the time of the crimes, allegedly convinced the young girl that she was going to help her make money in ‘modelling.’

Sonia later pressured the 13-year-old into removing her clothes and performing sex acts while Sonia took photos, according to the publication.

Sonia stood trial in California and New Hampshire and in 2005 was convicted of 20 combined counts of committing a lewd act upon a child and possessing child pornography in Los Angeles.

The convicted child rapist was then further charged for repeatedly raping the young girl and photographing the assaults in Strafford County, New Hampshire, in 2006.

Sonia was ultimately handed sentences in both California and New Hampshire.

After a minimum of 22.5 years are served towards the New Hampshire sentence, a Los Angeles County court will decide whether Sonia serves additional time in California.

When incarcerated, Sonia was sent to Washington to serve a portion of the sentence in 2016, one year after she’d began identifying as transgender.

The Interstate Corrections Compact (ICC) allows states to share correctional resources and move inmates to cross-border facilities if it better suits their needs.

Sonia had been moved to multiple male facilities in Washington before leaving a trail of complaints, with the inmate allegedly saying that they didn’t have adequate ‘gender affirming care.’

Sonia filed a grievance in 2020 saying she believed she was at ‘risk of male aggression’ while serving at the Airway Heights Correctional Center.

Sonia’s plea to be transferred appears to have been met, with some female inmates claiming to have seen her at the Washington Correctional Center for Women (WCCW).

Speaking under a different name, Shawn, who has a close family member at the facility told Reduxx that he was ‘deeply concerned for the safety of women inside.’

Concern began to erupt within the women’s prison when Sonia allegedly started to flip-flop between identifying as a woman and man.

‘He was saying that he’s both… Identifies as a man sometimes, and a woman sometimes,’ Shawn explained.

‘I know he looks like a regular middle-aged man with glasses. My relative says he doesn’t look trans at all.

‘An individual approached my relative and informed her that Sonia is identifying as a man. She also said at least one woman is terrified and uses a buddy system to visit the bathroom.’

Shawn claimed that some women inside have been warning each other to ‘stay away’ from Sonia, believing him to be a risk to them.

On March 31, a bill was passed which ended public disclosures on current and former incarcerated people’s transgender status.

Shawn worries that men might be getting transferred under false pretenses, telling Reduxx that the women’s facility is a much more comfortable place to serve time.

‘WCCW is known as ‘camp cupcake’ because it’s easy to do time there. Men want to be there,’ Shawn said.

Another inmate had sent a message that Shawn shared with Reduxx, which claimed a lot of ‘aggressive men’ had been transferred in.

‘These [incarcerated] women have profound trauma histories, mostly at the hands of men,’ he claimed.

Brett Sonia’s name appeared on a search of the Department of Justice inmate website, but the prison she is located in was not listed. Dailymail.com has also contacted WWCW for comment.
