Nearly HALF of British public want Harry stripped of his Duke of Sussex title after Netflix series

Almost half the British public believe the Duke of Sussex should be stripped of his royal title following the release of his Netflix documentary with Meghan Markle, a poll has suggested. 

Forty-four per cent of participants said that Prince Harry should have his title removed, while 32 per cent thought not.  

The explosive six-part Netflix series, Harry and Meghan, increased support for the Prince and Princess of Wales, rather than the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

In the poll by YouGov, carried out for The Times, 44 per cent said they had increased sympathy for William and Kate, compared with only 17 per cent for Harry and Meghan.

Meanwhile, 23 per cent said the recent series made them think worse of Harry and Meghan, while seven per cent said it made them think better of the California couple. 

Author of ‘Kensington Palace: An Intimate Memoir from Queen Mary to Meghan Markle’, Tom Quinn, said: ‘I’m only surprised that the documentary didn’t do more damage to the Sussexes. I found it painful to watch – it made you realise they are lost souls. 

‘I’m not at all surprised that people have more sympathy for the Prince and Princess of Wales because they are doing the classic thing of being stoical. They are not complaining about Harry.’

He added: ‘I think it is unlikely that the King will strip the Duke of Sussex of his title because then it looks like he and Prince William are doing the kind of things Harry and Meghan do.’

Sixty-five per cent of respondents said Harry and Meghan chose to give up their roles as working members of the royal family. Meanwhile, only 11 per cent said the couple had been forced out. 

Forty-nine per cent believed the royal family was not a racist institution, while 26 per cent did. 

In Harry and Meghan’s interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, the couple said someone in the royal family had made a remark about the skin tone of their first-born child, Archie. 

Despite the accusations, 51 per cent of the British public still thought the pair should be invited to the King’s coronation next year, while 31 per cent said they should not.
