Globally, 64% of the population have completed their primary series but inequities persist, with only 21% of the population in low-income countries and 28% of the population within the African Union having completed their primary series.
In November, Liberia became the second African nation after Rwanda to reach the 70% global target.
Fourteen out of 92 Advance Market Commitment Countries (AMC92) countries have now reached the 70% target: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Fiji, Laos, Liberia, Maldives, Nepal, Nicaragua, Rwanda,
Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vietnam.
Five out of 92 AMC countries have now met their national targets for primary series coverage. These include Bangladesh (76%), Liberia (73%), Mongolia (67%), Nicaragua (89%) and Sri Lanka (69%).
Among the 34 countries for concerted support, two more – Tanzania and the Central African Republic – have now reached 40% primary series coverage. Eighteen among the 34 countries now have coverage rates above 20%, with Niger and Kenya the latest to cross this threshold.
In November, Cameroon became the latest country among the 34 to pass the 10% mark following a well-planned campaign. Since January, 27 countries among the 34 for concerted support have now surpassed 10% primary series coverage.
