Haiwen & Partners has hired former Paul Hastings partners Fan Chaobo and Crystal Liu for its Hong Kong office, bolstering the firm’s capital markets and M&A practice in the city.
Before joining Haiwen, both Fan and Liu were partners at Paul Hastings’ Hong Kong office, where they had built extensive experience in the city’s equity capital markets, particularly in IPOs and follow-on offerings. They have acted as lead partners on several major Hong Kong listings, including Chenqi Technology and China Resources Beverage.
The two partners also advise clients on cross-border M&A and post-listing compliance in Hong Kong, and they are familiar with the retail, technology, healthcare, financial services, industrial and real estate sectors.
Dual-qualified in both Hong Kong and New York, Fan has spent more than a decade at international law firms. Prior to joining Paul Hastings, he was a registered foreign lawyer at Freshfields and Latham & Watkins.
Liu is a Hong Kong-qualified solicitor who worked at Paul Hastings for 12 years, rising from associate to partner. She once left the US firm for a short period to join Davis Polk as an associate.
Following Yan Jia’s exit last year, former co-chair of Paul Hastings’ Beijing and Shanghai offices, the US firm continues to see partners departing from its Greater China branches. This year, James Ma, a banking and finance specialist; David Wang, the former head of the Beijing and Shanghai offices; and Meka Meng, who focused on private equity and funds have all left the firm.
