The lots will be sold via online auction from February 10 to February 13 and the council hopes they will achieve a far higher sale than their single-figure reserve.
The land is all flat with power and sewage connections and close to supermarkets, medical and aged care facilities, three schools, a recreational lake, an early learning centre, parks, and community swimming pool.
As well as the bargain starting price, Flinders Shire council are offering housing grants of $5,000 to eligible applicants.
Flinders Shire council has a population of 1,521 people and the initiative aims at driving up the population in the region and stimulating economic growth.
Mayor Jane McNamara said it will be hard to find a better deal anywhere else in Australia.
‘The 48 blocks of land for sale offer an incredible opportunity for people to invest in building affordable housing,’ Cr McNamara said.
‘Whether you’re looking to retire and need an affordable home base for travel, are a young person or have a young family looking to own your first home, or an investor wanting high returns on investment, these blocks of land will suit you.
‘The large size of the blocks means you will be able to enjoy the wide, open spaces that the region has to offer.
‘Flinders Shire is located within an easy drive to Charters Towers and Townsville.’
