Nice try! Bungling crooks fail to smash open an ATM after dragging it from a gas station convenience store and ramming it repeatedly with their Jeep Cherokee for FIVE minutes – before finally giving up

  • Two crooks broke into a Washington gas station at 4.30am on January 17
  • They attempted to steal money out of an ATM machine after they broke into the store, but were unable to
  • The unidentified thieve later abandoned their mission when they were unable to get their hands on the prize money. They are still at large, according to police

Two bungling crooks were caught trying – and failing – to steal money from an ATM at a gas station for five minutes during a early morning raid in Washington.

The unidentified men can be seen on surveillance footage breaking into Ben’s Market/76 gas station on Blaine Road at around 4.30am on January 17.

Deputies were alerted to the break-in after two crooks used a stolen red Jeep and a tow strap to bring into the convenience store and steal an ATM machine.

The men, dressed in hoodies and hats, can be seen pulling up to the pumps before taking out a yellow tow strap and attached it to the back of the car.

Next, the man in the orange hoodie attaches the other side to the front doors of the gas station while the driver pulls away and busts open the door.

He then backs up as the man in the orange jacket runs inside and shimmies out the heavy ATM machine just inside the doors.

One of the crooks manages to get the machine upright – albeit upside down – while his partner in crime continuously pulls forward and then reverses.

As the other man is struggling to open the ATM, the driver takes matters into his own hands and backs up over the machine repeatedly.

Despite the entire plastic front of the machine coming off, they are still unable to access the precious paper inside.

The man in the orange hoodie drags the machine up to the passenger side door before abandoning it next to a gas pump, while the driver turns the vehicle forward and hits it again and again.

When the two men realize the crime is fruitless, the orange hoodie man hops back into the passenger’s seat and they take off in their stolen getaway car.

The car, which was stolen from Bellingham the same morning, was later found abandoned in the woods.

The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office is still looking for the men are encouraging anyone with information to come forward.
