Woman and child die after ‘being hit by an Audi’ which smashed into the wall of a Jaguar dealership

A woman and a child have died after a crash involving an Audi TT which smashed into the wall of a Jaguar dealership. 

Police were called shortly after 8.30am to a report that a white Audi had collided with the wall of the Vertu Jaguar Leeds car dealership on Scott Hall Road, Leeds.

Two people, a woman and a child, were found injured at the scene. 

It is believed they were both pedestrians who have been hit by the car prior to it colliding with the wall, West Yorkshire Police said. 

Both were pronounced deceased a short time later.

The driver of the Audi was taken to hospital and is being treated for injuries which are described as serious but non-life threatening. He is under arrest.

A forensic tent has been put up in the dealership.

An eyewitness said: ‘The entire front of the Audi is missing. The [woman] and child were pedestrians crossing the road.

‘He set off and 200 yards down the road he struck the two people on the pavement.’

A passerby said: ‘I think it the child was about four. From what people were saying I think it is a boy.’

Detective Inspector Paul Conroy, of the Major Collision Enquiry Team, said: ‘This is an absolutely tragic incident, and we are working to support the family of the woman and child involved.

‘We have already spoken to a number of witnesses but are keen to speak to anyone else who has witnessed the collision itself or the events leading up to it. 

‘We would also ask anyone who was in the area around the time of this collision to check their dashcam footage.’
