  • Benjamin Martin, the driver of a vehicle ahead, recorded it on their dashcam
  • Police were not called to attend and the driver emerged from the car unhurt

This is the shocking moment a reckless driver hit a central reservation to avoid rear-ending another car.

The black Peugeot swerved between lanes as it approached traffic on the A41 in West Bromwich, near Birmingham, on December 22.

Benjamin Martin, the driver of a vehicle ahead, recorded the car on their Nextbase dashcam scraping along the median strip before abruptly stopping.

Police were not called to attend the incident and the driver emerged from the car unhurt.

Mr Martin, said: ‘I was annoyed at his stupidity. He could have caused a serious accident and injured people, as well as damaged other people’s cars.

‘Traffic had started to slow and then stop as we approached an island. I would estimate the driver must have been going in excess of 60 mph to have been unable to break in time – or was distracted.’

‘I always look in my mirrors as I come to a stop and noticed him as he screeched his breaks and hit the central dividers. He damaged the side of his car,’ he continued.

‘I think people drive fast on this road because there are no speed cameras.’

Bryn Brooker, head of road safety at Nextbase, said: ‘This reckless driver very nearly caused a serious incident, rear-ending at least one vehicle at considerable speed.

‘Incidents like this show the need for drivers to be constantly looking at the road ahead, and adjusting their speed accordingly.

‘This is especially crucial in winter months when it can be harder to stop quickly.

‘Dash cams are also needed to help look out for incidents of reckless driving such as this – so when an accident is caused by another driver’s recklessness, it’s clear that you aren’t at fault. This can save thousands of pounds in retained no-claims bonuses.’
