Linn County records 327 new cases and three deaths

Iowa added 3,493 new COVID-19 cases in the past week, slightly down from last week’s 3,704 cases.
The actual total is likely much higher, given the availability of at-home test kits, the results of which are not reported to the state.
In Linn County, 327 COVID-19 cases were reported in the past week, up from 311 reported the previous week. The county has recorded 63,175 cases since March 2020, according to the Iowa Department of Public Health.
Johnson County added 207 cases last week, up from 165 the previous week. The county has recorded 43,853 cases since the start of the pandemic.
To date, 884,263 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Iowa since the pandemic first was detected in the state in March 2020.
The state confirmed 44 deaths from COVID-19 in the past week, including three in Linn County. The previous week, the state reported 27 deaths.
The new number is a 63 percent jump from the week prior and the most in a week since Sept. 21 when 57 deaths were reported. The record number of deaths confirmed in Iowa during a week was 553.
Since March 2020, 10,387 Iowans have died from COVID-19. That number includes 646 deaths in Linn County.
Hospitalizations from the virus increased to 272, up from 256 the previous week. This week’s number is the highest since August 10, when 323 people were hospitalized with the virus. The record number of people hospitalized for COVID-19 was 1,527.

The number of patients in Iowa intensive care units increased from 16 to 31.
