Boy, 5, is allegedly shot in the head with an arrow while playing in his backyard as his next-door neighbour is charged

  • Man, 53, was charged after allegedly firing an arrow into the head of young boy
  • Five-year-old boy had to be airlifted to hospital after he was struck on Sunday
  • He is said to be in a stable condition. The man will face court in February 

A man has been charged after allegedly firing an arrow into the head of his young neighbour.

The five-year-old boy had been playing in the backyard of his home on Wingham Circut in Wingham, on NSW‘s Mid North Coast, on Sunday just after 7pm when he was struck.

Paramedics rushed to the home and treated the little boy before he was airlifted to the John Hunter Hospital for further treatment.

He is understood to be in a stable condition.

A crime scene was established and officers from Manning/Great Lakes Police District commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. 

Later that evening, a 53-year-old man who lived in a neighbouring home was arrested.

He has been charged with reckless wounding and has been granted conditional bail to face Taree Local Court on February 22.
