Fire service and ambulance crews rushed to ‘possible chemical incident’ at Alton Towers after ‘unusual smell’ was reported in staff kitchen

Visitors were evacuated from an Alton Towers conference centre today over a ‘chemical leak alert’ after an ‘unusual smell’ was reported.
Emergency services rushed to the theme park in Staffordshire after the incident was detected in the employee-only kitchen.
According to The Sun, it is understood that two people had to be assessed by ambulance crews after the guests were evacuated from the conference centre at around 12:45am.
A fire service spokesman said: ‘We were called to the Alton Towers Resort following reports of a suspected chemical-related incident within an employee-only kitchen area.

‘Crews from Cheadle, Ipstones and Longton attended and carried out an assessment, with specialist equipment, which recorded no readings of any concern.
‘Two people were assessed by West Midlands Ambulance Service and discharged at the scene.
‘Crews later confirmed it was safe for the public to re-enter and advice was given to staff.’
Meanwhile, West Midlands Ambulance Service said: ‘Two patients were assessed by ambulance staff and received self-care advice before being discharged at the scene.’

A spokesperson for Alton Towers told MailOnline: ‘Guests attending an event in our conference centre were temporarily evacuated to the Alton Towers Hotel whilst the emergency services investigated reports of an unusual smell in a staff kitchen area nearby.
‘The all-clear was given shortly afterwards.’
In September, fans of Nemesis at Alton Towers declared ‘life will never be the same’ after it was revealed the ride would be shutting in November. The theme park is currently closed for the winter season.
