Two people have tragically died after a tree fell onto their car in the Glass House Mountains on the Sunshine Coast.

Queensland Police were called to Old Gympie Road, near Sargeants Road about 12.20pm on Saturday after reports of a significant traffic incident.

It is understood a Volkswagen sedan lost control after a tree fell on it.

Emergency crews had to cut the roof of the vehicle loose as it was so badly caved in.

The two occupants of the vehicle died at the remote scene. 

Located about 70km north of Brisbane, the Glass House Mountains and it’s national park is renowned for it’s panoramic views and walking tracks.

The terrain includes rocky peaks, steep hill slopes, gullies, swampy plains and a vast array of wildlife.
